This Chef opened a Persian Cafe in Australia
🇮🇷 This Chef opened a Persian Cafe in Australia to give Asylum Seekers the chance he never had 🇮🇷
After the government discovered Hamed was atheist, the professional chef left his restaurant and fled the country on a fishing boat, without the chance to say goodbye to his family. When he landed in Melbourne after months waiting in Jakarta and then in a detention centre, no kitchen would hire him. He began volunteering, eventually running Iranian cooking classes, before opening his social enterprise Cafe Sunshine and Salama Tea in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
Now Hamed employs people seeking asylum and refugees, hoping to provide the start it took him years to get himself. This is his story.
